AGING GRACEFULLY
Secrets from a Former Skincare Brand Owner
When people find out that I founded a skincare brand, they immediately ask me what I do with my skin. I’m going to tell you my (not so secret) secret… Rose Hip Seed Oil. I still believe it might be the most game-changing ingredient in the world of beauty.
One of the hardest moments of my life was closing an award-winning, growing brand because I decided I needed to invest my one and only life in a different way. It wasn’t just difficult because I missed all the amazing skincare customers, MSteves Beauty Cottage clients, women focused programming and workshops we hosted, and our loyal influencers. It was also hard because the products that I created specifically because I was not finding what I wanted in the marketplace were no longer going to be available to even me.
I tried every single Rose Hip Seed Oil I could get my hands on since my last bottle of MSteves RHSO Power-Packed Ultra-Nourishing Boost pumped its final perfect orange drop. Disappointed by mediocre results for years, I recently noticed that Evan Healy changed their previous formulation and packaging launching “Chilean Wild Rosehip Seed Oil”, an organic product. The MSteves line exclusively used Chilean RHSO for its higher potency. I was so diehard about it a decade ago that I would go through great efforts and cost to import it. So, you can imagine how ecstatic I was when I cracked open my first bottle and it was just what I was hoping for. I think my skin could have blind tested and known it was the real deal!
So, here is here are personal three make or breaks for your beauty regime, of course incorporating Rose Hip Seed Oil.
Cleanse well.
I recommend washing your face for a whole minute. I rotate between two products I like. Kristina Holey X Marie Veronique Pure + E.O. Free Oil Cleanser at my sink and Farmacy Whipped Greens Oil-Free Foaming Cleanser in the shower. I like the Farmacy product because it has astringent qualities that tighten the skin, natural enzymes for exfoliation, and is a deep cleanse without being too drying (stay away from clear liquid soap or foams in my opinion). Bonus, you can use beauty devices after it with the oil free formulation. Just remember, no matter what you use, the key is the one minute of moving your hands over your face and neck.
Exfoliate.
Use some kind of physical exfoliant every 5 or so days. I circulate through products and am still looking for something to fall in love with, but the key is not skipping this step. I find sloughing away those dead skin cells as I age is essential to glowing skin.
Boost your moisturizer.
(Yeah, MSteves’ fans, I’m still doing it.) What I mean by this is take a dab of a moisturizer on the back of your hand (oil free creams, BB/CC Creams, and all in one sunscreens are not going to give you the maximum hydration effect), and add a few drops of RHSO to a pearl size of cream. Then mix together and apply over your face and upper neck. It’s magic! Don’t believe me, try it!
As I have gotten older, I’m more sensitive to harsh treatments, peels, and products. The more I try to add to my skin versus strip it, the better results I see.
Add these other lifestyle essentials to support younger looking skin:
Sleep (above all else)
Hydration
Sweaty Workouts
Alkaline Foods (think plant based)
Face Tapping / Massage/ Gua Sha
Omegas Supplements (Why did no one ever tell me this?! Literally game changer for my eczema)
There you have it…my beauty secrets. (Well, I can’t share them all…yet).
